OUR HOUSE GLASS PAINT
In 2011, the best glass paint, which had been on the market for about 17 years, was discontinued as part of a company buy-out.  It was an air-dry paint that is permanent on glass and ceramic surfaces, making them fully usable and washable; even dishwasher safe.  It is also opaque, while other glass paints on the market are quite transparent.  Over the years Lisa has refined her method of Layered Glass Painting(tm) using this paint, and has found that no other available product is suitable for her method.  We had been marketing this paint along with six instruction books Lisa has written, so when we learned the paint had been discontinued we purchased as much existing stock as we reasonably could to keep Lisa painting, and to keep making it available to our loyal customers while we decided what to do.  We were faced with either using an inferior type of paint, giving up glass painting altogether when our stock ran out, or going into the paint making business.  We chose the latter.
Over the course of time, the manufacturer had made some changes in formulation, which were mostly cost-cutting measures.These changes did not adversely affect the permanence of the finished product, but did make the paint less user-friendly.We are going back to something closer to the original formulation, and fully intend to keep our testing and production in the US.
After researching both the technical as well as the legal aspects of having a similar product formulated and marketed, we have settled on a chemical testing lab in the Chicago area and are ready to proceed.  With the groundwork done, we are ready to have the new formulation produced in test batches so we can make any refinements that are needed.  One feature will be full compatibility with the discontinued product, so anyone who has some can fill in missing colors and supplies with our new brand.
Although we’ve been in retail for many years, this is a giant step for us, going into a bigger business venture than we ever thought we would. The results will be well worth it, and even more importantly, the consequences of not doing it would be too hard to bear.
